早稲田大学教育学部英語第5問解説＆和訳付き（2020年2月19日）

今回は、早稲田大学教育学部英語第5問についての解説を行います。教育学部の問題の中でかなり易しめの問題ということもあり、本文及び全訳も載せました。おそらく、ミルカとテトラという『〇〇ガール』を彷彿させますが、性格も発言も違う感じなので関係はないでしょう。

早稲田大学教育学部英語第5問の問題文

それでは、問題をそのまま引用します。ただし、問題番号についてはわかりやすいように編集しました。

Milka: (1)The sun is shining. The birds are singing. (2)Do you really have to be on SNS while we’re walking through this park?

Tetra: Yeah, if I don’t answer right away, my friends will wonder what I’m doing.

Milka: Watch out! You almost bumped into that old lady.

Tetra:Oh, I always look up at the last moment.

Milka: Everybody else has to (4)scurry out of your way would (5)be more like it. And (6)don’t you think it’s rude to the person you’re with not to be paying any attention to them?

Tetra: Most of my friends would be doing the same thing, so I don’t think they’d notice.

Milka: It’s not (7)like I’m against computers and email. I spend most of my time in front of the computer when I’m at home. I have a homepage and four email accounts. And I use Wikipedia and refer to Google a dozen times a day when I’m online. But when I’m outside, I want to experience the real world -I don’t want to be half here and half there.

Tetra:I think that being online most of the time now is’ the standard way of life.

Milka: (8)Unfortunately, you may be right.

以下、日本語訳をします。あくまで参考程度にしてください。

テトラ：今ではほとんどの時間をオンラインにすることが標準的な生活様式だと思います。

問題について

1. Milka says underline (1) because

正解は４。見るかが下線１のように言っている理由はどれか、という問題。「外にいるときは現実の世界を体験すべき」とある。下から３つ目のセリフで「But when I’m outside, I want to experience the real world」とあるので４があっている。１は「テトラに田舎にいる鳥を近づいて聞いてほしい」２は「テトラは自身の問題に気が散っているのでミルカはテトラを元気づけたかった」３は「ミルカはテトラに太陽の日差しと鳥の鳴き声について文句を言いたかった」どれも書いていない。

 

2. Milka says underline (2) because

  1. she thinks that Tetra needs to be on SNS.
  2. she doesn’t want to know if Tetra needs to be on SNS.
  3. she thinks that Tetra doesn’t need to be on SNS.
  4. she wants to know if Tetra needs to be on SNS.
正解：３。ミルカが（２）のように言った理由として「テトラはSNSをする必要がないと考えているから」notの位置に注意しましょう。１は「ミルカはテトラがSNSをする必要があると考えている」２は「ミルカはテトラがSNSをする必要があるかどうかわからない」４は「ミルカはテトラがSNSをする必要があると知りたい」

 

3. From the exchange between Milka and Tetra, we may infer that

44. Underline (4) can be inferred to mean

正解は１。scurryは「ちょこちょこ動き回る」

 

45. Underline (5) can be paraphrased as

  1. be closer to the truth
  2. be more likely to do it
  3. be beyond dispute

正解１。「真実により近い」とある。「ありうること」をあらわしているので正解。

46. Underline (6) can be paraphrased as

  1. Do you believe it’s rude?
  2. You think it’s rude, don’t you?
  3. You ought to realize it’s rude,
  4. You probably think it’s rude.
正解は３「あなたは無礼だと気づくべきですね」否定疑問文は反語の意味を帯びる。１は「無礼だと信じているのですか？」２は「あなたは無礼だと考えていますよね」付加疑問で利いてるのはthinkについてで無礼についてでないので間違い。4は「あなたはおそらく無礼と考える」

7. The strongest accented part in underline (47) is

1. like　2. I’m　3.against   4.computers

正解は３。「反対しているわけではない」とagainstが強調されている。

8. In Milka’s last statement, underline (8),
